Choreographer Sentenced To Prison For Rape
A dance choreographer who has appeared on the popular televsion show "So You Think You Can Dance" was sentenced to 10 years in prison last month after having been convicted of raping a former dance student. Alex Da Silva, who frequently choreographed ballroom dance routines for many contestants on seasons one through four on the show, was first arrested in 2009 and charged with multiple felonies after four women claimed he either raped or sexually assualted them. All four of the women were between the ages of 20 and 26 and were former students of Da Silva's. The choreographer was ultimately convicted on one count of rape and one count of assault with intent to commit rape. The jury in the case could not come to a decision on the remaining charges, which were later dismissed. Da Silva was also ordered to register for life as a sex offender with the state of California after completing his prison sentence. No word was given as to when Da Silva would begin serving his sentence.
