Two Teachers Arrested For Abuse At LA School
Two teachers were arrested within four days of eachother at Miramonte Elementary School last week after allegations were made that each teacher had acted in a lewd manner or had inappropriately touched children. Mark Berndt was arrested last Monday for multiple felony criminal offenses, including feeding as many as 23 children in his classroom his own semen while blindfolded in a tasting game. Berndt had been suspected of misconduct as far back as 1994 when a 10-year-old girl told authorities that he had reached for her genitals during class. At the time, prosecutors declined to pursue charges because of a lack of evidence. Berndt is also suspected of taking bondage-style photos of some of the children in his classes. A second teacher, Martin Springer, was arrested the following Friday after several seven- and eight-year-old children claimed Springer had fondled them. Berndt is being held in police custody on $23 million bail and is facing life in prison if convicted. Springer is expected in court this week. The two cases do not appear to be related, though Springer and Berndt did know eachother.
